Town Government Information
The Town of Mt. Gilead has a progressive government that offers a wide variety of excellent services to our citizens. The Town operates under the Council-Manager form of government. Under this form of government, the Mayor and Board of Commissioners are responsible for setting policy for the Town. The Mayor and Board of Commissioners hire a professional manager who is responsible for implementing Board policy and managing the day to day operations of the Town.
Mt. Gilead mayoral elections are held every two years and the four Board members are elected to staggered four year terms. These elections are non-partisan and are held at-large rather than by district. The Board of Commissioners meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at the Mt. Gilead Volunteer Fire Department. The Town also has a Planning and Zoning Board which meets the second Thursday of each month at the Mt. Gilead Public Library, as needed. The Mt. Gilead Board of Adjustments meets as needed.
